Europan 05:38
(v1) glass smashed through the bodega door and now stuck in my shoe, so i shake that off. crackhead sitting on a bag of their belongings all fucked up in 90 degree weather with just enough energy left to outstretch their hand for change. masked faces grilling skewers in a makeshift outdoor trailer made of plywood and rusty nails with gaps, cracks and nail pops eight feet off the curb of a one way but no ones there. everyone looking down or off to the side or on to oblivion unfocused and unaffected by wreckage passing plastic bagged up trash around a city tree on the sidewalk. (v2) stores boarded up, kids bored and fed up scared to death or scared they stopped feeling. compartmentalizing their dreams, cares and fears into a phone screen, dumbing out to a viral dance on an app during a virus scare, since there’s a choice to be numbed up compared to outside the phone where it’s crumbling down. and when it says “game over” and “play again,” you can, kids who went and do that in life but when they’re in a body bag there’s no game console options, life was a game to win, no points, no coins, no rings, no skins. no points, no coins, no rings, no skins.

They say “shop til you drop” Collect ‘em all and don’t stop This credit card jumps firewalls Let’s go to top it off. Scanning bars, getting rewards This retail lady says I’m looking like a rockstar. Give a dog a bone and he’ll want more bones So I’m shopping at the mall while I’m shopping at the mall. Give a dog a bone and he’ll want more bones So I’m shopping at the mall while I’m shopping at the mall. Teach a man to fish, he’ll invest in a scale. Clothes make the man when there’s money for bail. Filling up product in non-recyclable bags Back in 2002 we called it “poppin’ tags” Give a dog a bone and he’ll want more bones So I’m shopping at the mall while I’m shopping at the mall. Give a dog a bone and he’ll want more bones So I’m shopping at the mall while I’m shopping at the mall. Gucci leather umbrella that’s ready for hail, A rap sheet of seven sins that’s ready for Hell. Give a dog a bone and he’ll want more bones So I’m shopping at the mall while I’m shopping at the mall. Give a dog a bone and he’ll want more bones So I’m shopping at the mall while I’m shopping at the mall.

Fight 02:32
It’s beautiful tonight And I have seen the light So I don’t wanna fight So I don’t wanna fight So I don’t wanna fight tonight. It’s beautiful tonight And I have seen the light So I don’t wanna fight So I don’t wanna fight So I don’t wanna fight tonight.

about

On “High in Friends Places” - the group’s first release - Sidney radically reinvents his sound. Eschewing his standard garage band instrumentation, Sidney opted instead to utilize low-grade keyboards, a madcap approach to sampling, and his trusty digital eight-track recorder. The result is chaotic, electronic collage-punk: imported Casio beats, riffs and beats (sometimes stolen from his former band Uppertiers’ own back catalog), and an absolute unwillingness to cede ground to any one style or genre.

Joe Sidney’s stubborn insistence on total DIY freedom (he’s still never stepped foot in a recording studio) allows for a singular, idiosyncratic vision to shine through. The primitive drum machine punk of “Report to the Floor” and “Shopping Song” betray a heavy influence from Le Tigre, while “Crazy Talk” and “Digame” are some kind of bit-crushed dancehall."

Careening through nine tracks in 25 minutes, “Friends in High Places” is as sui generis as punk gets.
